weekly reading, volume 11

I'm back in atlanta for a couple weeks, which makes me happy because there's quite a few things I want to bake and cook. we haven't gone to the grocery store in at least three weeks due to our travel schedules and I'm looking forward to making a nice long list and stocking the pantry this weekend. scones have been on my mind for a while and I need to decide on which recipe to try. I'm also looking to try ree drummond's black bean burgers.

in other food related news, I was in itasca, illinois this past week and I actually managed to work out every day I was there. I also managed to eat portillo's (salad), lou malnati's pizza, and some local bakery donuts which were amazing. lou's deep dish personal cheese pizza with buttercrust gets me every time. my boss happened to be starving and ordered two appetizers (which of course, I helped with): bruschetta and the combo plate which included fried cheese bites, fried mozzarella, fried zucchini, and fried mushrooms. I am vowing to have a super healthy month of august though, and while it doesn't sound like it, I'm off to a strong start.

as for other life updates, wedding planning is going smoothly. we just received our save the dates and they turned out just beautifully. I highly recommend using minted.com if you are in the market. we are solidifying our wedding menu as we speak and have our tastings in about a month! eeek. plans are underway for a bachelorette trip to the mountains in the fall, which I am pumped about. we found a gorgeous MOB dress and we ordered bridesmaid dresses which are exactly what I wanted (and were difficult to find).

work has been extra busy and the past few weeks have taken me to charleston for a video shoot, which I loved, and to itasca for a large training preparation meeting which went well. I launched a course called "setting the bar in '17" and had a good laugh when I showed up and saw my colleagues had made a sign for the "sitting at the bar in '17" class. ahhhhh good times.

for the past several months, the house has just taken everything out of us. in a good way, of course. we finally got to a point where we are done making very large purchases. since we went from a 1 bedroom to a 3 bedroom, there was a lot to buy! we are waiting on our final purchase, outdoor patio furniture, and should receive it just in time for the housewarming party this month. I'm excited to start sharing weekly home tour posts on the blog.

I almost forgot to mention that a few weeks ago, we had a kitty scare. sometimes I let my cat be a little mischievous because I feel like it must make her feel more like a wild kitty, since she's a completely indoor cat. I know this sounds absurd, but it's usually so freaking cute like when she drinks running water out of the sink even though she has a real water bowl just in the other room. anyway... I had a bouquet of lilies that I let her sniff and she ended up with pollen on her little face which was so adorable. all of the sudden, something inside of me had a bad feeling. I googled it and turns out, lilies are extremely, extremely poisonous to cats. long story short, I had to take her to the vet where she was monitored all day and turned out to be fine. the vet said that many times, lilies are given as funeral flowers which could lead to an additional death in the family (the pet). be careful of lilies and your cats! and if you're in need of a vet in the north atlanta area, definitely go see dr. tigyi.

ok, that's all for now. have a fantastic first weekend of august! what are you most looking forward to this month?

  2. The one thing that I always love doing after I've been on vacation or traveling a lot is going grocery shopping and actually cooking! Nothing tastes better than a home cooked meal after you've eaten out for a while. But holy cow did you have some good food in Chicago! Now I'm craving pizza!
