THE best pumpkin bread

'tis the season! pumpkin season! I usually make my first batch of pumpkin bread on or before september 1st. it's really too soon, especially since the weather can still be extremely warm, but I can't help it. this recipe is just that good - and it makes three medium loaves so you can keep one and give two away to spread fall cheer!

I always buy the disposable foil loaf pans from the grocery store since the recipe makes three loaves - I give two away and foil tins make it so much easier. we brought a loaf to a couples shower over the weekend, I brought one to work, and we devoured the third loaf. if you like pumpkin, you must try this recipe!

building a game collection

a game collection is a must-have for many reasons, especially as we move into the back half of the year. fall brings football season which means hosting friends over for game day and winter brings the holidays and family time spent at home. playing a fun game is a great way to spend time with friends and family.

last year, I became a little obsessed with building a game collection. I asked for games for my birthday and decided I wanted to display them on my coffee table. my coffee table has a glass top with a mirrored bottom, the game collection fits perfectly on the bottom. plus, the coffee table is in my living room which is a great place to have games on hand for company. here are some of my recommendations to start or build your game collection...

savory sausage cheese balls

football season is already underway [gig 'em aggies!] and the air, depending on where you live, is starting to get more enjoyable with subtle breezes greeting us down here in georgia. these sausage cheese balls are the perfect tailgating appetizer, best served warm but still very good when served at room temperature. I made them a few weeks ago for stephen's tennis city finals tournament - as always - they were completely devoured. everyone loves these, but seriously, men LOVE these sausage balls. no pun intended.

I make these all the time and am always asked for the recipe. try these sausage balls the next time you have people over or bring them to a potluck or party or any occasion where men are involved and you will become a local celebrity. and of course, these fit right in at a tailgate.

the story behind the pic // a linkup

my mom and I went to cuba in april this year - I took tons of pictures. pictures of classic cars, communist propaganda, gorgeous buildings, dilapidated buildings, food, etc. while each photo has significance, this photo above definitely has a story behind it.

we were a part of a larger travel delegation from the world affairs council of atlanta and we had a well planned schedule for each day of our trip. my mom is a college professor and really wanted to get a photo in front of the university of havana, in order to do this - we had to take a detour from the travel group one morning....

fashion friday: two-toned booties

so I've mentioned it before in another post, but I have sort of a funny confession to make about my style in the early years. I would not wear the color brown. I deemed it a lesser, more casual alternative to black. why would I want to buy something brown? I mean it wouldn't go with anything in my wardrobe. in my mind, there were girls who wore black and there were girls who wore brown. I had picked to wear and invest in a black-based wardrobe and that was that. verrry rigid, I was in those days!

fast forward to now, I still don't love the color brown but I do love to mix camel in with black. it lends itself to an edgy mix, in the case of these two-toned booties - streamlined on top and almost architectural on bottom. the subtle contrast of the stacked neutral heel has definitely grabbed my attention this fall.

fall's favorite candles

I set out to scour the interwebs on this post of fall's best candles. I started at bath and body works and I didn't really see a need to go much further, holy cow, their fall scent selection is out of control this season. but because this isn't an ad for bath and body works, I did check out a few more places so I could round up the best candles of the season.

I am not typically a fan of dessert scented candles, but if you are, it seems this season is for you. from fireside marshmallow to pumpkin pecan waffles, go ahead and indulge at zero calories per sniff. and in case you're not rooting for the aggies - check out yankee's large selection of other collegiate options. enjoy!

zucchini turkey bolognese

think of this dish as a soft welcoming to fall. the heavier winter version of this meal is made of real pasta, beef and is served with red wine. no doubt, it is delicious. this version is the late summer/early fall, lighter alternative using zucchini, turkey, and can be served with white or red wine.

so go ahead, take in the last few days of late summer and welcome fall with a bowl of zucchini turkey bolognese and a glass of chardonnay or pinot noir. I'm already brainstorming for the fall season... my bucket list consists of apple picking, a mountain weekend, north georgia wine tasting, and my best friend's wedding. it's been a wonderful summer, cheers to rounding it out well with whatever you haven't crossed off your summer bucket list and looking forward to fall!

fashion friday: ponchos, capes, ruanas oh my!

happy friday, everyone! on a somber note, can you believe it's been 14 years since 9/11/01? for so many of us, the memory of that day is seared into our brains forever. take a minute this morning to remember the lives lost, the heroic first responders, and all the families affected on that tragic day. it is truly a day that will never be forgotten.

on a much lighter this post inspired by a $1500 burberry cape that I love but can not bring myself to buy? why, yes, yes it is. there are a million others ways I should spend (ahem, save) that kind of money but I can't get that darn cape and its beautiful print variations out of my head. especially the animal jacquard print. you probably already know what I'm referring to since it seems to be everywhere this season with tons of celebs sporting monogrammed versions. to help overcome my obsession, I've rounded up my favorite lower priced options... pair with a black or white shirt, jeans, boots, and a pumpkin spice latte, and voila! it's fall.

beach house living room reveal

I hope everyone had a nice long weekend! we spent labor day weekend at my family's new beach house. my parents' dream has become a reality and it's crazy to think that over a year of hard work has flown by (easy for me to say, right). I remember when it was just a plot of dirt and a bunch of blueprints. building a house from start to finish is such a unique, exciting, and daunting task.

my parents have done an amazing job designing and furnishing each and every detail of this gorgeous home, I thought I'd share a few photos from one of my favorite rooms - the living room. the furniture is from restoration hardware and my mom made all the drapes by hand. we are so happy and excited (and grateful) for this vision to come to life.

art show pop-up at gwinnett technical college

last week, I ventured over to gwinnett technical college for work meetings. there happened to be a pop up student art gallery in the building and I stumbled across these awesome shots from photographer kelli pace. I love the picture of the girl with the balloons tied down by time and also the cereal photo... such fun bright colors.

sometimes I wish I could just have one over the top girly room in my house. I know I'm not alone in this vision, right?! I would fill it with these photos and furry pillows and animal prints and mirrored pieces from zgallerie! check out more of kelli's awesome work here.

fashion friday: boot roundup!

being that I was born in texas, my first pair of boots were baby pink kiddo boots that I wore to the rodeo. doesn't get more texas than that! after those early years in texas, we moved around a bit and I attended middle school in minnesota. don't get me started on fashion up there, I failed miserably. fast forward to high school and college back in texas. I didn't buy my first pair of adult boots until a sorority date party my freshman year. I ran to cavendar's and bought the first pair I could find that had both brown and black in coloring since I mostly wear black and wanted them to match.

I had those boots for 10 years until I realized that I really needed an update. I've embraced the concept that brown boots mix with black attire and that opened up a world of options. a bachelorette party this summer made me take the plunge to buy new boots! I bought the turquoise babies below and I can't wait to wear them to the a&m v. auburn game this fall in college station. I'm a little concerned I've created a monster with this post research... I honestly want every single pair of boots pictured below. from trendy fringe to americana stars and stripes to girly girl floral and rustic sparkles - these boots have got you covered!

USTA city finals

almost every single one of our weekends includes tennis in some way, shape, or form and this past weekend, stephen's mens team took the USTA city championship! stephen lives for these days. it was a close match up, but they ended up taking the win 4-1. afterward, the team hit a local bar for celebratory drinks and lunch.

next stop - state championship in may! may is almost nine months away, by the way. cue the patience...
