building a game collection

a game collection is a must-have for many reasons, especially as we move into the back half of the year. fall brings football season which means hosting friends over for game day and winter brings the holidays and family time spent at home. playing a fun game is a great way to spend time with friends and family.

last year, I became a little obsessed with building a game collection. I asked for games for my birthday and decided I wanted to display them on my coffee table. my coffee table has a glass top with a mirrored bottom, the game collection fits perfectly on the bottom. plus, the coffee table is in my living room which is a great place to have games on hand for company. here are some of my recommendations to start or build your game collection...

battle of the sexes
catch phrase
hungry hungry hippos
a deck of cards

you can buy all of these games on amazon or at target and the prices are usually pretty reasonable. I opted for a good mix of classic games (such as hungry hungry hippos and jenga) and more modern games like hedbanz. I think the classic games invoke a bit of nostalgia, who doesn't have fond memories of playing operation as a kid?! that being said, there are also a lot of cool, new games to check out.

grab a basket you already have or pick up one from homegoods or pottery barn and stash your games nicely inside for a purposeful and decorative touch.

do you have a game collection? what are your favorite games?
