for the third week straight, I headed out of town for work last week. this time, my destination was alabama for a training experience which was out of this world. our group stayed and played in the newly developed uptown birmingham area.
uptown is home to multiple bars and restaurants including cantina laredo (margaritas on point), texas de brazil, and southern kitchen. the westin hotel anchors the area and also features both a pub and an octane coffee shop.
on our first night in uptown, we had a glass of wine and a cheese tray from the pub at the westin. it's the closest bar to the hotel since it's attached and we ended up coming back on our last night. last call is 10:45pm at the pub which is also kind of nice, wild patrons can't keep hotel guests up at all hours of the night and who wants to stay up past 11pm on a work night anyway. not on purpose, at least.
the second night of our stay, our large group split up to enjoy all three dining options. my group dined at southern kitchen. before dining, I googled the menu and was impressed with the many southern style options to choose from. I found many good choices and knew I'd be in good hands for dinner.
we were greeted with smiles and cocktail menus, how pretty is this libation list! we sampled appetizers including fried pickles, bacon wrapped shrimp, and charleston cheese dip with cheese and turnip greens. the rest of our meal followed, I chose salmon with carrots and mashed potatoes and was not disappointed. our group wandered over to another bar called mugshots and I called it a night.
if you find yourself in birmingham, alabama - check out uptown for happy hour or dinner!
