ridgewood [new jersey] reunion

as you know, I recently left a company that I cared a lot about and embarked on a new opportunity which I am extremely excited about! I flew up to new jersey for a week of training and was fortunate to be able to reconnect for dinner with one of my favorite atlanta friends who moved to ridgewood a few months ago.

as she promised, ridgewood is the quintessential american small town. on our way to dinner, we stopped to see baby deer on the side of the road. the greenery and lush surroundings were something out of a storybook. once we arrived in ridgewood, it was block after block of small town charm. we picked finca for tapas and had an enjoyable evening catching up in this adorable town.

first we stopped at the cellar store down the street for a few bottles of wine to enjoy with our tapas. apparently, BYOB is complimentary (no cork fee) and commonplace in new jersey. the staff at finca were happy to open our bottles and provided a chilled ice bucket to keep them cold. we poured over the menu and made some difficult [albeit, yummy] decisions.

we started with eggplant spread and naan, which was very good and a nice variation from traditional hummus. we then ordered an array of empanadas including cuban-style (ham and cheese), garden style (spinach and cheese), and traditional (beef and onions). we topped it all off with an order of patatas bravas with chorizo and croquettes.

the garden style and traditional empanadas were delicious, as were the croquettes. I am a huge fan of patatas bravas and have eaten different iterations in several countries, finca put a unique twist on a classic by integrating the chorizo and upping the spice level.

throughout my week in jersey, I will say that the food did not disappoint. from crab cakes to empanadas to italian, I did not go hungry in jersey. reconnecting with a friend I hadn't seen in quite some time was the icing on the cake!
